Things ARE Looking Up
Look up at the stars and not down at your feet.
Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about
what makes the universe exist.
Be curious.
Stephen Hawking

On a recent trip to Europe I visited several places in Italy.
The beauty of each place enthralled me…it truly was a photographer’s dream.
I got to point my eyes and lens towards the Dolomites, the majestic mountainsin Cortina d’Ampezzo, the little colorful coastal towns of Cinque Terra, houses and buildings on the water in Venice and the dramatic coastline of Sestri Levante.
Another incredible view, one that delighted me so was… “Italian Laundry,” articles of clothing and bedding hung out to dry from apartment windows.
Each article of clothing or bed linen represented a piece of that person’s life…and collectively told a story.
A sheet, a pair of pants or a work shirt with a logo…they all were part of the people living inside that home.
Of course, the story is always open to interpretation…that’s the beauty of it.
I was so intrigued, I spent much of my time in Italy looking up and that’s how I came to create the mini photographic series, “Italian Laundry.”
After posting a couple of these on Instagram, it was brought to my attention that this takes place in many countries…saving energy also while creating this beauty filled landscape above our heads.
I hope I get to travel to those places someday to photograph more of these colorful vignettes of people’s lives, imagined or otherwise.
So maybe when you’re feeling down, or blue, look up, you never know what you’ll see to delight you.
Ciao!
PS: Don’t let the upcoming holidays stress you out. Be gentle with yourself and enjoy your loved ones.
