Hey everybody!
I hope your new year is off to a fantastic start!
For me, this year is going to be full of vulnerability! I am learning that with change comes a lot of unknown and with that, for me anyway, comes a good amount of fear. Please indulge me while I tell you a story from my youth:
When I was 22, I participated in a self-help, self-awareness program called “Life Spring.” As part of one of the advanced programs we did a ropes course where we tested our bodies and our trust for others and self. One of the activities was climbing up the face of a mountain and repelling down that same mountain. As I waited on line for my turn, I watched the people before me and noticed that they were all waiting to take the same route up the mountain. When it came to be my turn I asked if I had to take the same route and they said no, “you have the whole mountain to climb.” So, I took a route about 20 feet to the left of the route that was “most traveled” and it was more difficult. I was really scared and even second guessed my decision to take a different route. With all those emotions, I was also determined to get to the top of that mountain and so I did. It was a great revelation for me and I discovered that I can do things even with all the fear in the world. I can also take a different path than others and still get to the top, maybe it takes a little longer, but I get there. I put that fear in my back pocket if I have to…but I’m not going to deny that I feel fear because when I try to do that I get paralyzed and don’t do anything. So… I’m declaring that this year is going to be full of lots of wonderful breakthroughs and wonderful fear and I call it wonderful because I believe that without fear, I am not really stretching myself or expanding and that is really important to me. So… I invite you all to join me in climbing that mountain, fear (and excitement!) and all, and as Zig Ziglar says, “I will see you at the top!”
Let’s all create a breakthrough year and do things we’ve never done before and push through those old habits and beliefs that keep us stuck. Get a coach, a mentor, a friend or family member to keep you accountable. That seems to work best for me. Create a team a “you” team and you can be on their team too, rooting for them, supporting them in reaching their goals. My good friend Debbie Johnson always says, “Robbie, you must ‘allow’ the things you desire to enter your life.” And so, this year I am committed to allowing love, opportunities and success to enter and fulfill my life. And… the best part is that I get to share it with you… if I can do it, so can you!
Be Brave, Be Strong, Be YOU!
Love and Light,
Robbie
