Promotion is a Beautiful Thing

As a musician and artist, I have always had to promote myself. I never had an agent or any significant representation, it was always just me, marketing me, promoting me.  I took myself pretty far, not as far as I would have liked, but for someone who had no training in marketing or promotion, I did pretty well. And it’s ironic, because I feel a little self-conscious most of the time promoting myself… you know, shameless self-promotion.  But it’s that age-old conundrum, can’t get anywhere without it.  This particular blog post however, is not about me.  I truly believe that one of my purposes here on earth is to help others achieve their dreams, even if it’s just being a tiny part of their journey on the way, it feels so great to have made a contribution towards them realizing their dream.  I even created a project here in the Santa Ynez Valley so I could share the immense talent, skill and wisdom of the ladies here. It truly brings me joy.  So in this blog, I am happy to introduce you to a few friends and the beauty they create.

Meet Theo Stephan, she is the talented creator and owner of Global Gardens in Los Olivos, CA. Not only is she creative, super knowledgable (about everything!) and funny, she is one of the most incredible business women I have ever met.  She has created a wonderful a wonderful company that offers organic olive oil and so much more.  One of the books Theo authored is Olive Oil and Vinegar For Life.  She teaches people how to easily create gourmet, organic and healthy recipes and is innovative in so many ways and I hope you will visit her on her website to learn more about her. Her products are shipped internationally and I for one, love giving them as gifts, for the holiday and just like this.

Next meet Christi Schaeffer, artist, teacher and event leader.  She is not only one of the funnest people I know, she is the creator and owner of Gyspy Studios Art.  Christi, an amazing painter, not only teaches people who seriously want to learn how to paint, but in about 2.5 hours, she also teaches anyone who signs up for her events how to create a beautiful painting of the vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley.  And I can vouch for that as I have signed up for her event and actually created a pretty decent landscape painting of a vineyard.  Oh, and let me tell you, I have absolutely no skill for painting. If you are planning a trip to California, treat yourself to a painting event with Christi.  Visit her website to find out how.

Please say hello to Rita Ross, long time friend, artist and creator of PocketPeople dolls and products.  I met Rita through Twitter in 2009 when we met for coffee in Santa Monica, CA. At that time she was making her dolls herself. She still makes dolls herself in addition to having them manufactured and sold all over the world.  Recently, Rita started painting and has just about created a beautiful vibrant painting a day. Stay tuned for upcoming gallery shows of her beautiful work and visit her on Facebook where you can see her beautiful creations.
