As a photographer, I am conditioned to look out and take photographs that speak to me. At a time in my life, I turned the lens on myself as I indulged in introspection and internal contemplation, erasing all that I have known until now, to study who I am without any identity.
Deconstruction is a self-portrait typology presenting a narrative about the stripping away of old beliefs and identifiers and the reconstruction of a belief system that opens the door to living a fulfilled life.
The deeper I get into this series the more I understand that, in some way, I have very little to do with it. The ideas have shown up at all hours of the day and night and when I took their cue, I was fortunate enough to move forward in the collaboration.
In color psychology white is the color of new beginnings, of wiping the slate clean. It is a blank canvas waiting to be written upon. One of the basic features of the color white is neutrality, which contributed to the reasons I chose to take self-portraits wearing a white dress.
