The One Thing
The things which are most important
don’t always scream the loudest.

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and I jump right into work mode.
I get a cup of coffee and sit down at my computer to tackle the day’s tasks that I’ve been tossing and turning about all night.
Sometimes, I’ll even get up in the middle of the night and start working.
There’s so much “day stuff” to do that it’s easy for me to get distracted and pulled away from the things that I am working on for my business.
Days like this will go by and I will gradually become edgy, or as my husband calls it, “frosty.”
I’m not getting through my “to do” list as quickly and successfully as I would like.
So I beat myself up a little, eat a little … too much, worry, stress…you get the gist.
And then after so much self-recrimination I stop and remember what’s important.
First and foremost, my health is important.
Happy mind=happy body=happy soul. And they all let me know when I am neglecting them.
In fact, if I am not taking care of myself, that in itself is a distraction from what I need/want to do.
So what did I do?
I remembered the concept from a recent book I read, “The One Thing” by Gary Keller, to refer to and yesterday when I woke up I asked the focusing question, “What’s the one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?
In this case, the answer wasn’t: sit down for hours and schedule social media for my business, it wasn’t create a task list, it wasn’t write a business plan it wasn’t even create a logo or more designs.
It was simply; Today I will eat well, exercise my body, stay present and go to sleep knowing that I took care of myself and loved my ‘self’ enough to take care of it so that I do not wake up beating myself up for the lack of it yesterday. (because… that… is a distraction too)
The term “getting back to basics” is a cliché for a good reason. It’s true!
Then, I can apply the same focusing question to my business, my relationships and the rest of my life.
Today, I hope you find the one thing that connects you to the peace that lives within you.
