Getting There

Before the pandemic, I was just finishing up a mixed-media project, “Life on the Road,” inspired by my grandson’s infatuation with match box cars. I created scenes on wood with resin and die-cast cars depicting scenes from movies, history and nostalgia. I recently submitted this work to The Royal Society of American Art located in Brooklyn, NY, and a couple of my pieces were chosen for the online version of the “Duel” exhibit.

You can see the collection in its entirety HERE. I originally created this work under a pseudonym RJ Kydd.

Sequestered time during the pandemic gave me the opportunity to complete projects as well as start new ones. I had the time to hone my skills as I wasn’t quite sure about my ‘voice’ or style in my paintings.

While I feel very connected to my work in “Aftermath” I also feel aligned with the new work I’ve been creating, a new collection called, “The Legacy of Season,” which I’ll be sharing more images from in future postings.

I’ve been incorporating birds, paths and trees into these pieces, which conveys my love of nature and self-discovery.

I love the notion that life is made up of many paths: paths to each other, to adventure, to the unknown and to ourselves.

Out of the Blue, 24 x 36 in, Acrylic on Wood

“Out of the Blue” was the first piece in the Legacy of Season collection. I hadn’t yet incorporated any paths, that came later. It is the first piece I added a bird to, a Blue Jay.

I love this little bird, which is obvious to spot. In subsequent work, the birds are more camouflaged and not so easy to find, which I love. It’s a little added surprise if you get up close to the work.

See You on the Other Side, 18 x 24 in

In “See you on the Other Side,” (above) if you look closely, you’ll see a Goldfinch. I research the birds that live in the trees I’m painting.

I’m looking forward to sharing more work from this new collection with you in the future.

In the meantime, if you are interested in purchasing my work, please reach out, I’d be happy to answer any questions. You can see more of these collections on my website at www.robbiekaye.com.

Stay well and I hope you can get out in nature whenever it’s possible. If you can’t, let me know and I’ll send you a photograph of a beautiful sunrise from hikes I’ve been going on.

We can all “get there.”

Love,

Robbie
